Laporte-Altrad case: the FFR will be a civil party

The steering committee of the French Rugby Federation decided on Thursday to bring civil action in the context of the referral to the Paris Criminal Court of the president of the FFR Bernard Laporte, his vice-president Serge Simon, his partner Mohed Altrad jersey and Claude Atcher, president of the Public Interest Group France 2023, who claimed to be at the material time as “commercial director” of the institution.

After presentation of the general manager Laurent Gabbanini, the elected officials validated this decision at 96% for 4% of abstention. Bernard Laporte and Serge Simon did not take part in this ballot. In his presentation, the DG explained that article L. 131-10 of the sports code allows “approved federations to exercise the rights granted to civil parties with regard to offenses causing direct or indirect damage to the collective interests of their licensees and of the sports associations and societies which are members thereof”.

“The fact of becoming a civil party demonstrates the normal functioning of our Federation which is independent and cannot be reduced to the person of its leaders

The projected document also stated: “In this case, the alleged acts directly concern the FFR since they are acts committed in the exercise of the functions of the leaders involved. The circumstances legally justify a CP of the FFR. » This procedural initiative, for which the opposition led by Florian Grill campaigned for a long time, was entrusted to Christian Dullin, secretary general of the Federation and loyal to Bernard Laporte.

“The FFR can bring civil action in order to defend the interests and the image of the discipline, Gabbanini still indicated in his presentation. The fact of becoming a civil party demonstrates the normal functioning of our Federation which is independent and cannot be reduced to the person of its leaders. At this stage, the FFR has an interest in bringing a civil action essentially to have access to the file. It should be noted that the FFR has not received a notice to the victim from the PNF and that it is not aware of any document in the file. »

This civil action would also allow the FFR to seek compensation for the damage suffered, if necessary.
