Nations League: Germany concedes a draw against England, Harry Kane scores from the penalty spot (1-1)

Germany and England are not more advanced in this League of Nations. Opposed in the poster of the 2nd day, the two nations shared the points at the end of a match which the Mannschaft should have won, in view of their much superior control, Tuesday evening at the Allianz Arena (1-1 ). But a penalty generously awarded to the Three Lions allowed Harry Kane to score his 50th goal for the selection and, above all, to respond to the German opener.

Germany vastly superior

The English have again found a way to antagonize the Germans, who may blame themselves for having let two points slip away. Hansi Flick’s players actually performed a much better match than their opponents. Their only fault? Not having been able to demonstrate efficiency in the last gesture.

As proof, despite their domination, especially physical, they waited for the second period to materialize their hold on the scoreboard. Jonas Hofmann, perfectly served by Joshua Kimmich at the entrance to the surface, found the flaw with a clear shot (1-0, 51st), when a goal had been rightly denied him for an offside position before the break (23rd).

Germany then gave the impression of having dealt a big blow to the English, cooked like never before and first abandoned by the coaching, which was too late. Except that the Mannschaft did not take enough advantage of it. Jordan Pickford also made two decisive saves to keep his team afloat, with a firm hand against Thomas Müller (70th) then winning his duel with Timo Werner, after a German counterattack (75th).

The burst of English pride was long overdue, but it ended up arriving under the impetus of Jack Grealish, author of an excellent entry into play. He thus did not go far from sending a decisive pass to Harry Kane, disgusted by Manuel Neuer (76th).

It was only a postponement for the English striker, who can thank the intervention of the VAR on an involuntary, if not slight, contact with Nico Schlotterbeck in the box. The Tottenham star took Neuer perfectly on the wrong foot from the penalty spot, to pass the 50-goal mark with England, three short lengths from the record held by Wayne Rooney.

A stroke of luck very well paid for the Three Lions, who show big limits in this League of Nations. Germany missed the boat, and it is therefore Italy that smiles.
